HIGHLIGHTS:
TWO PAPERS DOCUMENT THE DEVELOPMENT OF HEALTH-BASED CLEARANCE CRITERIA AFTER A TERRORIST CHEMICAL ATTACK
Two papers prepared by the Human Health Risk & Environmental Analysis
Group in ESD have been accepted for publication in the Journal of Human
and Ecological Risk Assessment (Vol. 17, No. 1). The two papers document
the development of health-based clearance criteria for airport remediation
after a terrorist chemical attack. Annetta Watson and a multi-disciplinary
team from ORNL, the University of Tennessee (Knoxville), the Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory, and the Office of the Army Surgeon General assessed
and quantified multi-pathway exposure routes for nine threat compounds,
including nerve agents and sulfur-mustard chemical warfare agents. Dr.
Watson is the lead author and has also been named Guest Editor of the Journal's
"Special Reports" section featuring these papers, which are scheduled for
print publication in Jan-Feb 2011.
